It goes into the period of Japanese history known as 'Old Japan' that lasted until the mid-19th century, delving into the pivotal Meiji Restoration which ushered in unprecedented change that propelled Japan to the forefront of world power in the 20th century and transformed all aspects of Japanese society, from its political institutions to its educational systems. At the same time, the country was able to preserve its unique traditions, blending the old and the new in a way that makes Japan and its people so distinct. It provides insight into the history of a nation, whose myths and legends have shaped its religious beliefs, whose warrior class left an enduring legacy on the national character, and whose modernization is a model for countries around the world. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
