The Hebrides are the colorful setting of this thrilling adventure story for boys and girls. The hero, 14 year old John MacInnes, persuades a local farmer/landowner to trust him with the care of his sheep in their summer quarters on Goat Island. Once this is settled and he has the use of a boat, he organizes a camp so that his friends, three other boys and two girls, can help him in his scheme to fish lobster from the island. In the beginning, the possibility of finding a treasure of long lost gold, said to have been hidden there by pirates, was uppermost in their minds as a wish and a dream. It becomes a reality when they realize that men will murder for gold.
