Textes et études du Moyen âge 97. - Quasi neuwertig (noch original in Folie verschweißt). - "In the almost twenty years between the two international conferences on John Wyclif organised by the University of Milan, the most recent of which (September 2016) lies to some extent at the origin of the present volume, an increasing number of studies have been devoted to this great English thinker, theologian and reformer. These have enhanced our knowledge of his philosophical, theological and pastoral work, which had long remained in the shadows. The essays collected in the present book take further steps along this path, through the contribution of a range of specialists who have been called to further reconstruct Wyclif's place in his intellectual milieu from the standpoint of his textual and doctrinal dependence and influence: the collected essays deal with the antecedents of Wyclif's thought, his sources, and his role as a source for countless followers and opponents. The following authors have contributed to the volume: Mark Thakkar, Alessandro Conti, Aurélien Robert, Stephen E. Lahey, Ian Christopher Levy, Sean Otto, Kantik Ghosh, Jindrich Marek and Graziana Ciola." (Verlagstext) ISBN: 9782503594064 Sprache: Englisch Gewicht in Gramm: 800.

These witty and elegant letters cover a wide range of topics, from the changing seasons to the nature of human existence. They provide a fascinating glimpse into the intellectual and social life of 18th-century Italy. The author, a man of considerable learning, shares his insights on everything from the vagaries of the weather to the importance of women's education. His correspondent, a woman of keen intellect and independent mind, offers her own thoughts on these and other subjects, engaging in lively and often humorous debates with the author. Through these letters, the reader gains a sense of the cultural and intellectual currents of the time. The author's observations on the role of women in society, the importance of education, and the nature of happiness are particularly noteworthy. This book is a valuable contribution to our understanding of 18th-century Italian society and thought, and it will be of interest to anyone interested in the history of ideas or the role of women in the Enlightenment. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Robson, the De scientia Dei is 'in some way, the most important of all the treatises' of Wyclif's so-called Summa de ente. It was probably written in 1372, when the editorial project of the Summa de ente was in its final stages, and when Wyclif was at the peak of his academic career. In it he deals with God's knowledge as a divine attribute, presents his peculiar view of God's knowledge as a relation of reason, distinguishes between God's knowledge of creatures in their intelligible being and in their actual existence, and argues in favour of a compatibilism between God's foreknowledge of future events and the liberty of human will. In this connection, a long section is also devoted to questions about the doctrine of salvation, and to the first elaborated exposition of Wyclif's doctrine of grace. The edition is preceded by a historical and doctrinal introduction, enabling the reader to situate the tract within the framework of Wyclif's own production and to appreciate the relevance of some of the topics faced in the text in the light of the development of Wyclif's theological and philosophical thought.
