Dieser widmete seine Freizeit der Topographie und Geschichte der Stadt Wien. Er beabsichtigte, die von Schimmer mit der Häuserchronik der Inneren Stadt begonnene Arbeit für alle damaligen Vorstädte und Vororte fortzusetzen, konnte jedoch krankheitshalber nur die Arbeiten über die Wieden, die Alservorstadt und die Rossau vollenden. Seine Werke zeichnen sich durch intensive Heranziehung archival. Quellen, vor allem der Grundbücher, aus, sie sind bis heute grundlegend geblieben. (vgl.
