Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. 1st Edition. Printed in Cremona in 1585, Cremona Fedelissima Citta is one of the finest illustrated histories of an Italian Renaissance city. Antonio Campo created an ambitious work celebrating the people, rulers, architecture and heritage of Cremona through a remarkable combination of scholarship, cartography and engraving. The volume is renowned for its magnificent series of maps, architectural plates and portraits engraved by Agostino Carracci, together with the celebrated image of Maximilian Sforza after the now lost portrait by Leonardo da Vinci. More than a history, it is a visual record of sixteenth century Italy and one of the most important civic publications of the Renaissance. Copies of this monumental first edition are increasingly difficult to acquire, particularly those preserved in attractive early bindings and with distinguished provenance. About the Book; Antonio Campo's Cremona Fedelissima Citta was printed in Cremona by Hippolito Tromba and Hercoliano Battoli in 1585 and is the first edition of this celebrated Renaissance history. The impressive folio contains superb engraved maps by David da Lodi, detailed architectural illustrations, thirty three engraved portraits by Agostino Carracci and numerous decorative woodcut initials. It remains one of the most important illustrated books on the history of Cremona and northern Italy. Why Buy This Book; This is an exceptional opportunity to acquire one of the great illustrated books of Renaissance Italy. A scarce first edition printed in Cremona in 1585. Features magnificent engraved maps, architectural plates and thirty three portraits by Agostino Carracci. Includes the celebrated image of Maximilian Sforza based on the now lost portrait by Leonardo da Vinci. A distinguished copy from the famous Stowe Library, formerly owned by the Dukes of Buckingham and Chandos, one of the greatest aristocratic libraries assembled in Britain. Books from the historic Stowe Sale of 1849 are highly regarded by collectors for their exceptional provenance and historical importance. An outstanding acquisition for collectors of Italian history, Renaissance art, cartography, architecture and fine early printing. Available from Atlas Rare Books. Agostino Carracci (illustratore).
