Obra muy rara del jurisconsulto y escritor español Alonso de Carranza, que vivió entre el fin del siglo XVI y principios del XVII. Las cuatro primeras hojas de preliminares contienen una hoja de portadilla con el título de la obra, y la segunda de portada con la dedicatoria a Felipe IV y el pie de imprenta, al que hay que añadir en descripción: A costa de Pedro Coello Mercader de libros. Después en las dos hojas restantes lleva la Suma de Privilegios, la Tasa, la fé de erratas y dos aprobaciones de Fr. Diego Niseno y de Francisco Morovelli de Puebla. El discurso se divide en dos partes, la primera trata de Trajes y Adornos y la segunda sobre el ornato del cabello. A partir del folio 34 inician las notas al discurso. La primera parte desarrolla: que es costoso y superfluo. Penoso y pesado. Feo y desproporcionado. Lascivo, deshonesto, y ocasionado a pecar, así las usan, como otras por causa de ellas. Impeditivo en gran parte a las obligaciones, y acciones domésticas, que corren por cuenta de señoras de familia. Perjudicial a la salud, y a la generación humana, a la conciencia y a la Causa Pública. En la segunda parte arremete contra los cabellos. Segunda parte en que se detesta el ornato del cabello de que ahora usan nuestros españoles. Los hombres ocupados en curar y componer el cabello desdicen del sexo. Los que ponen su estudio en criar y curar el cabello, viven expuestos a cualquier lascivia y sensualidad.
