Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. David Levine (illustratore). First Edition. Here's a practically impossible to obtain NON Ex-Lib Library binding in pictorial cloth with reinforced binding, as issued by the publisher. Most copies of this edition were undoubtedly sent to schools and libraries, but here's one that wasn't. No indications of any library markings, not even removed indications. This one truly was NEVER in institutional hands. It's an about fine copy with light fading along spine and minor dust soiling to boards. Internally tight and clean.

Hardcover. Condizione: Good. 1st Edition. Top edge gilt. Original cloth with gilt titles and decorations. Original unrestored endpapers. There is an 1908 Christmas gift inscription on the verso of front flyleaf. Page 147 has some light pencil notes and there are some scattered light pencil lines on a few pages. These could probably be erased with the proper eraser but they are not very obtrusive and I would recommend just leaving them. The corners are a little bumped but not overly so. The spine is slightly faded. Usually encountered in much worse condition. All illustrations are present.

A wartime publication when paper supply was short and which could easily fit into a child's pocket making them very portable, so handy for taking down to the Anderson shelter, and often referred to as shelter books . They were sold through Woolworths and the cover price of threepence subsidised by the adverts on the back cover as here for 'Snowfire Ointment for cuts and scratches'. This example in remarkable condition, the central staple rusted but without 'bleed' onto the adjacent pages.
