Nach dem Krieg Abteilungsleiter für Unterhaltungs- und Tanzmusik beim Sender RIAS Berlin, komponierte Carste weiter Filmmusiken, Schlager, sowie Tanz- und Unterhaltungsmusik. Für die Tagesschau" schrieb er die Erkennungsmelodie. Carste war als Dirigent und Komponist ein Förderer unterhaltender Musik. Seine Orchesterwerke zeichnen wohlklingender Satz und großliniger Schwung aus. Die lyrischen wie die tänzerischen Komplexe seines Schaffens sind bei aller volkstümlichen Eingängigkeit auf Haltung bedacht und nie vulgär. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg setzte er seine Laufbahn im Bereich der Unterhaltungs- und Filmmusik fort und komponiert…e zahlreiche Schlager, Film- und Tanzmusikstücke. Besonders bekannt wurde seine Melodie Treffpunkt der Jugend", die ab 1955 als Erkennungsmusik der gleichnamigen Rundfunksendung diente. Carste prägte damit die deutsche Unterhaltungsmusik der Nachkriegszeit und blieb bis zu seinem Tod 1971 als Komponist und musikalischer Leiter aktiv.
