William Carus Wilson who was immortalised as 'Mr Brocklehurst' in Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre. A very damaged fragment. Brown paper tape to spine. Covers have suffered loss and are pasted onto cream paper. Internally the pages are loosely attached to each other but not to the covers with much creasing and loss including to the text. Few light stains externally but text is clean. Poor.

A single monthly issue, in original state, of Church of England clergyman and charity school founder William Carus Wilsonâs (1792-1859) immensely popular penny periodical The Children's Friend. Begun in 1824, the series appeared concurrently with Wilsonâs the Friendly Visitor (established 1819), and the Teacherâs Friend (1844), all of which attained a wide circulation and influence, with upwards of 3,000 copies distributed monthly by 1845. Size: 12mo.
