Hand-colored outline delineates regional divisions, the map depicts the regions of Estremadura, Beira, Trasos Montes, Entre Douro e Minho, and parts of the surrounding Spanish regions of Estremadura, Regno di Leon, and Galizia. Major cities are prominently indicated as red fortifications. Mountains are depicted pictorially. A vignette surrounds the title cartouche with a beautifully engraved pastoral landscape. In good condition, with tiny manuscript notations throughout. Published in Rome by Calcografia Camerale, founded by Pope Benedict XIV in 1738. Giovanni Maria Cassini (1745 - 1824) was a geographer, engraver and globe maker based in Rome, Italy. Best known for his globes, his maps stood out for their elaborate engravings, which he did himself, unlike most publishers of the time. This is a beautiful example of his distinctive work.

unbound. Map. Uncolored engraving. Image measures 18.75" x 13.75". This fine antique map of the western part of Bohemia (modern day Czech Republic) extends westward from Prague. Details roads, towns and pictorial topography. Depicts Bohemia while it was in the midst of the Czech National Revival. A ornate title cartouche featuring a pastoral scene adorns the lower left corner. Map is in very good condition with slight wear along the centerfold. This map is from the 1796 edition of the atlas 'Nuovo Atlante Geografico Universale', published in Rome between 1792-1801. La carta murale dello Stato Pontificio disegnata ed incisa da Giovanni Maria Cassini venne pubblicata a Roma dalla Calcografia Camerale nel 1805. Nel presente esemplare i canonici quindici fogli che compongono la carta sono ridotti a dieci. Nell'angolo in basso a sinistra, in campo libero, troviamo il decorativo cartiglio composto da un basamento in marmo su cui è iscritto il titolo mentre ai due lati sono raffigurate le figure allegoriche della Chiesa (sulla sinistra) e della scultura, pittura e disegno (sulla destra). Sempre nel cartiglio fa da sfondo un ambiente boschivo in cui campeggia lo stemma del Papa Pio VII sorretto da due putti alati, mentre sulla destra, è poggiato lo stemma di Mons. Alessandro Lante, tesoriere generale dello Stato Pontificio. Attenta la raffigurazione orografica e si segnala particolare cura nel disegno relativo all'idrografia in cui i corsi d'acqua sono presentati con tratto sempre più spesso man mano che si allarga il letto dei fiumi. Sulla destra spiccano due tabelle riquadrate da decorativi motivi vegetali. La più grande, in alto, riporta i nomi delle città, dei fiumi e dei laghi principali dell'antichità e la loro denominazione moderna. La tabella sottostante invece indica le longitudini e latitudini, riferite al meridiano dell'Isola del Ferro. Sulla sinistra, in campo libero, sono riportate dodici scale grafiche tra le quali dieci riguardano le differenti miglia utilizzate nei diversi territori italiani, a cui si aggiungono le leghe di Francia e segno dell'affacciarsi del sistema metrico, i miriametri, corrispondenti a 10000 metri, o "grandi Leghe nuove di Francia". Stato di conservazione generale molto buono fatta eccezione per un piccolo lavoro di tarlo.
