Donnington Castle - enclosure castle with gatehouse-tower built in the 14th Century, with its greatest days during the English Civil War when it held out for nearly 2 years against Parliamentary besieging forces. The principal feature was the gatehouse which is now the sole remnant of the original castle. Wood Engraving, handcoloured, plate size 7.25 X 4.5 ins, 18.5 x 11.5 cms, mounted and ready to frame, mount size approx. 12 x 10 ins, 30 x 25 cms, V.G, ca 1880s. *An impressive view of the castle ruins, with people & a cart in the foreground.
