Gutes Exemplar. - Französisch; arabisch. - En publiant mes Elements de l'Arabe classique, je n'avais pas ete sans eprouver la necessite de les faire suivre d'un livre d'exercices. Seul, j'eusse cependant, sans aucun doute, recule devant l'ingratitude d'une telle besogne. Qu'il me soit done permis ici de remercier Mme Ceccaldi d'avoir bien voulu m'assister dans cette tache. Mon role, je tiens en effet a le souligner, s'est limite a la fixation du plan, a des indications sur certains points de details - questionnaires par exemple - et au choix des textes arabes. Ces Exercices forment la matiere de deux annees d'etudes (classes de 6" et 5e ou 4' et 3" des Lycees et Colleges). Le plan suit exactement celui des Elements de l'Arabe classique (Paris, 1942) auxquels ils referent sans cesse, pour l'etude de la grammaire. Les questions qui suivent l'etude de cette derniere sont posees de maniere a appeler, non une simple repetition de la lec.on apprise, mais un effort personnel de reflexion, des comparaisons entre des faits linguistiques analogues. Les exercices portent seulement sur la morphologie. Les themes, devant 6tre uniquement un exercice sur la syntaxe des mols et la syntaxe de construction, sont constitues pas des phrases detachees. On s'est efforce de limiter l'indigence du fond, sans toujours y parvenir: une pensee profonde ne sert, helas, pas toujours a illustrer l'application d'une regie d'accord ! De meme, au debut, dans les versions, on a du se resigner a n'utiliser que des phrases separees. Toutefois, des qu'on a estime pouvoir le faire, on est passe a un texte formant un tout. Les uns, sans designation d'auteur, sont constitues par des emprunts de toute main. D'autres, suivis d'un nom d'auteur, sont des citations textuelles. D'autres enfin reproduisent un texte avec des modifications de detail ou des coupures ; ils sont suivis alors de la mention : d'apres Un Tel. .
