After establishing his pharmaceutical business and gaining some success, he continued to pursue his interest in painting, traveling widely throughout the islands, documenting remote natural landscapes. He gained early recognition for his art, eventually became the founder and president of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts.

This stunning scenic view of New Zealand depicts 'Te Tarata', or "The tattooed rock" in Maori, also known as the "White Terrace". Reportedly the largest silica sinter deposits on Earth, this remarkable natural wonder was believed to have been buried in the 1886 eruption of Mt. Tarawera. The view features the surrounding Lake Roto-Mahana. Some travelers climb the terraces while others sit aboard a waka, or a Maori canoe. Steam appears to be rising from the hill top, as well as nearby rock formations, showing the geothermal springs and geysers that helped form the terraces. This print is a beautiful documentation of a landscape that is often considered the eighth wonder of world, but has now been lost to time.

Condizione: Very good condition. A striking full length portrait of Rangihaieta (ca. 1780 - 1855), a Ngati Toa chief, nephew of Te Rauparaha. The portrait is full length, with the chief depicted wearing a long feather garment with dark fringe, and holding a taiha (ceremonial spear) in his right hand. Rangihaieta has white hair and wears a hei tiki around his neck. The portrait is from Barraud's 'New Zealand Graphic and Descriptive'. 8 3/4 x 14", matted. Condizione: Very good condition. A striking full length portrait of Honiana Te Puni (unknown - 1870), a Te Ati Awa chief of high lineage who was descended from Takarangi and Rau-Mahora. The portrait is full length, with the chief depicted wearing a dark feather cloak, with a longer garment beneath with a decorative geometric border. Te Puni has a white beard and white hair and carries a mere in his right hand. The portrait is from Barraud's 'New Zealand Graphic and Descriptive'. 8 3/4 x 14", matted. Sublime variante du dessin de couverture du premier livre de Ramuz, en première édition illustrée, publiée chez Kundig en 1939.
