Cloth. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good Indeed. First edition. A very scarce first English translation of Anatole France's philosophical rebuttal to the "yellow peril" fever of the time. The first English translation of this work. From a series of English-translated works of Anatole France, edited by Vi…ctorian publisher Frederic Chapman. With the publisher's original unclipped dust wrapper (unpriced).Undated, dated from identical copies held institutionally. With twenty-four pages of the publisher's advertisements to the rear.'The White Stone' by French poet, journalist and novelist Anatole France, follows a French men's discussion about the world's state. The views explored reflect the author's own, sharing his usual topics of interest such as colonialism, religion and racism. The books ends with an interesting prediction of the rulers of a future race. With a contemporary ink inscription dated 1911 to the front free endpaper, "souvenir amical de Charles Emile Roche" (referencing the translator of this work). In the original cloth binding. With the original unclipped dust wrapper (unpriced). Externally, smart, with fading to the spine cloth and slight bumping to the extremities. Dust wrapper is also smart, with edge wear and a couple marks. Overall in an impressive condition for its age. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, save for the contemporary ink inscription to the front free endpaper. Very Good. None (illustratore). book.
