Aggiungi al carrelloLeather. Condizione: Good. None (illustratore). A large and illustrated copy of John Bunyan's famous Christian allegory. The Pilgrim's Progress was first published in 1678 and is regarded as one of the most significant works of religious English literature. This text comprises of The Pilgrim's Progress and other works by Bunyan. It includes the prefaces and indices as well as an original memoir of the author by George B Cheever. Illustrated, with 31 plates. The plate 'Bunyan's Dream' unfortunately has suffered severe loss. Otherwise, the text is complete. John Bunyan was an English writer and Baptist. In total he wrote nearly sixty titles, most of which were expanded sermons. In a full morocco binding with gilt stamping to board edges and spine. Externally, smart with slight rubbing to the joints and to the extremities. Small patches of rubbing to the spine, particularly at the head and tail of spine. Rubbing is heavier to the rear board where there are also several marks. Hinges are slightly strained but firm. Gift inscription to recto of front endpaper, Presented to Mr John Watson on his Marriage Day with Best Wishes Peter Coldwell, December 27th 1871. The inscription has a few light felt pen scribbles from another prior owner. Tide mark to bottom of frontispiece due to damp staining. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned with instances of spotting throughout, heavier to the plates and to the first and last few pages. Spotting throughout text is mainly to the margins not drastically affecting text. The plate 'Bunyan's Dream' is torn, and lacking a significant portion. Good. book.
