The Gentle Art of Persuasion teaches you how to argue effectively! The Gentle Art of Persuasion teaches you how to argue effectively!Much of life is spent in arguing, domestically, at work, professionally, or it just happens that way. Soft cover. Condizione: As New. x 310 pages, illustrated with black and white photos. The pages are lightly tanned, else the book appears unread and unopened. "Reflections and rumblings on human nature and the law from one of Australia's longest serving criminal defence barristers, once nicknamed 'The Smiling Funnelweb', Chester… Porter QC. Chester Porter's life in the law began in 1948, when at the age of 21 he was the youngest lawyer to be admitted to the Bar. He took silk in 1974 and quickly became known as Sydney's best defence lawyer, shunning the courtroom theatricals favoured by many of his rivals.'Young Chester' was the man others would go to if they were in strife. Chester's most famous cases included successfully defending the 'once only's' such as Detective Sgt Roger Rogerson on bribery charges, and Judge John Foord who was accused of attempting to pervert the course of justice. He was counsel assisting the Northern Territory Commissions of Inquiry into the convictions of Lindy and Michael Chamberlain. After clocking up scores of legendary victories, some of Macquarie Street's more larrikin lawyers produced a limited edition t- shirt with 'Chester Porter Walks on Water'- a slogan that sums up an illustrious career that spanned more than 50 years. This is not merely a reflection of human nature at its worst but also an overview of how the law has changed and developed over the years. From the McDermott Royal Commission to the reform of forensic evidence and the future of the law in Australia, this is the long-awaited memoir from one of Australia's most respected QC's.".

Paperback. Condizione: Good. This engaging guide, written by the renowned Australian barrister Chester Porter (affectionately known as the "Smiling Funnel Web"), delves into the crucial skill of effective argumentation and persuasion. Published in 2008 by Random House Australia, this paperback copy is offered in Good condition.…Porter argues that while much of life is spent arguing, most arguments are unproductive. He champions intelligent argument as the sensible path to advance causes, spread knowledge, and achieve progress. This book is not about mere impressive rhetoric or devastating opposition, but rather the subtle art of truly changing minds and convincing through quiet, thoughtful persuasion. A valuable resource for anyone looking to refine their communication and influence.

Buch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - Unknown to Trong, scouts had reported increased American activity to thesoutheast of the camp, which possibly meant the Americans were moving into the area. Every precaution had been taken to ensure that the camp was not taken by surprise. Patrols were sent out daily. Observation posts were place…d well forward of the camp, and fi ghting positions around the camp were manned at all times. Trong checked his equipment one more time as he waited for the Americans. He slid the bolt back on his Soviet made AK-47 making sure that a round was chambered. Next, he checked the green plastic American-made detonator, which was attached to the Chinese claymore mine located thirty meters from his position. He thought himself ready and tried to fi ght the panic that assailed his mind. He thought of what his section leader had told him. 'Wait, until the Americans were close to the mine before detonating it. Then use your rifl e to kill any of the Americans that are left alive.' Chester Porter was born and raised in Texas. He was drafted into the Army in 1967 and served with the 196th Light Infantry Brigade. In 1968 he was transferred to the 199th Light Infantry Brigade. In 1982 he became a Federal Law Enforcement Offi cer for the Department of Interior, US Fish and Wildlife Service. He retired from federal service in 2005 after twenty-nine years of government service. Porter lives today, outside of Savannah Georgia in the small town of Rincon.
