Hardcover. Condizione: Good+. Wilson, Clara Powers (illustratore). Collection of 6 children's stories with colorful illustrations throughout by Clara Powers Wilson. Typical of the period, the title story employs stereotyped descriptions & images to tell the tale of a "little darky boy" who got his name because "his mouth was just the shape of a big slice or ripe watermelon," & who, craving the fruit one night, is enticed by a small fairy--the "naughty little Blackie" to break into a neighboring farmer's field to steal one. Orig. published in 1914, this is edition is from 1938, a 12mo in brightly decorated paper over boards, in 68 pages. Condition is Good+: generally quite clean, with random small smudges & spots. Binding strong & straight, reinforced with cloth inside both covers. Pages moderately tanned but completely unmarked save for old gift inscription in pen inside front cover. Exterior shows significant rubbing, heavy in places, especially all corners. Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. This is a hand made high school year book assembled by Esther Valentine Heckel who attended Lafayette School in St. Louis, Missouri. She graduated from the Eighth Grade in January, 1923, one of 47 in her class. Book size about 6 by 9 inches with some 189 or so pages. Bound in blue paper over boards with gilt and blue decoration and lettering. One of those early Yearbooks where the publisher provided an outline of what to enter in the book and then the student filled-in the book in whatever manner they chose. This is a usual example of the Grammar School graduation type with less material inside than in the High School yearbooks; some 50 pages were used. Material includes considerable art work at rear of book; writing from classmates and friends; graduation program; about 15 photos of her classmates and herself; etc. I could say this is rare, but it is actually unique, one of a kind, as are all these old hand-made yearbooks. A reference book for Women's Studies showing how the young girl of the 1920's was educated. This is one volume in a collection of some 65 of these old Yearbooks ranging from the late 1800's to the 1930's mostly from the Midwest which will be in my book seller catalog titled 'Women'. Light wear; a particularly nice example of the type. VERY GOOD Language: eng Language: eng Language: eng.
