"She had a terrible inferiority complex, was very shy. I always gave her a good smile to put her at ease. After a few other photographers had scared her out of her wits she regularly came to me." Did he try to minimize Gable's ears? "Minimize? I taught Gable to forget them." One time I remember cheering up a newcomer named Ava Gardner, who was awfully discouraged. Among all his subjects, Bull's favorites were "Garbo and Jean Harlow, but you can't toss out the Bennett Sisters, Dietrich-I could go on and on." Yes, Clarence Bull photographed the stars.
