Kann der Baum doch in diesen papiernen Hüllen wachsen, sie durchbrechen und zum Zerreißen bringen. Das Wachsen des Baumes ist dabei g…leich wichtig wie der künstlerische Prozess von Josef Bücheler. Die Materialien Papier, Zweige, Grafit, Erde und Asche, mit denen der 1936 geborene, in Rottweil beheimatete Josef Bücheler arbeitet, erinnern an die Arte povera, die Formen, die er daraus schafft an Organismen und an Architektur. Wie Schilde, die zugleich auch Bildkörper sind, spannen sich in seinen Werken Papierhäute über Weidenruten. Bücheler bearbeitet diese Papiere mit Asche, Sand und Schlamm und übermalt sie. In seinen Zeichnungen jedoch geht er in die dritte Dimension, indem er mehrere Lagen Büttenpapier übereinander legt. Die konsequente Reduktion, die seine verschiedenen Werkgruppen auszeichnet, ist kein Zufall. So war es ein Aufenthalt in Bangladesh, der Josef Bücheler mit Weide und Papier experimentieren ließ, da ihm sein bis dahin bevorzugtes Material dort nicht zur Verfügung stand. Immer ist es etwas Archaisches, das diese Werke charakterisiert, sei es, dass sie im Ausstellungsraum, in der freien Natur oder im Sakralraum zu sehen sind .
