It would make a great gift for the fan in your life, even if that's you. About: Monarch Cycle Manufacturing Company (1892-1899) was a bicycle manufacturer based in Chicago, Illinois. By 1896 the company became one of the largest manufacturers of bicycles in the world. The company was founded in 1892 by John William Kiser.[1] In 1892, the year the company began, there were 35 employees and the company made 150 bicycles. By 1896 there were 1200 Monarch cycle employees, and they were producing 50,000 bicycles. The company sold bicycles worldwide. Monarch Cycle produced a chain-less bicycle with a patented two-piece crankshaft. To promote the company, they sponsored safety bicycle contests for their trick rider Lee Richardson. In 1899 the company was sold to the Bicycle Trust. The American Bicycle Company only lasted a few years (from 1899-1903). Historians have not determined why the company failed but they have several theories. One idea was that the company was poorly organized, and another theory is that the various manufacturers involved in the company had different objectives. After the breakup the many different companies went back to competing. ~ We appreciate your consideration of one of our books, art prints or novelty items. We strive to offer fast, courteous and professional service to all our patrons. Reading is one of life's great pleasures. ~ Please inquire for further details, our items arrive shrink wrapped and well packed. ~ Thank you for stopping by. 44 p. Fully illustrated. (illustratore). Aggiungi al carrelloxiv, 126pp; xi, 133pp; xiii, 132pp - many maps and diagrams throughout all three volumes. 31x24, three uniform comb bound volumes with illustrated glossy card covers. Combs and covers a bit rubbed, contents very good, ex-lib with couple of small labels on fep, small stamps etc. This pioneering transport plan - known as CATS - used new methods for projecting future transport demand in the Greater Chicago area. While population and employment trends were substantially overestimated, the report also significantly underestimated the growth in automobile ownership and individual demand levels - the two errors largely offset each other, giving reasonably accurate projects of traffic in the horizon year of 1980. The proposals included an ambitious set of highway construction projects, which were largely not implemented, and a more modest set of improvements to the city's mass transit system, which largely were. Support from the City government and funding from the Federal government for the latter and not the former were crucial factors. [Heavy item, may require additional postage to some destinations].…

MAP OF THE STATE, UNITED STATES AND WORLD. PATRON'S DIRECTORY, REFERENCE BUSINESS DIRECTORY AND DEPARTMENTS DEVOTED TO GENERAL INFORMATION. ANALYSIS OF THE SYSTEM OF U.S. LAND SURVEYS, DIGEST OF THE SYSTEM OF CIVIL GOVERNMENT, ETC. ETC. Paged as 1-163, i-viii, [no page ix as specified in Table of Contents], x-xix, [missing xx-xxi], xxii-xxiii with duplicate copy of last leaf present and bound-in upside down. Elephant folio - hardcover; H 45.25cm x L 38.75cm (17.75 inches x 15.25 inches). Maroon cloth spine; black cloth boards with maroon corners. Boards rubbed and stained; gilt stamping upon front board remains fairly bright; board corners well worn; should be re-backed as spine cloth is chipped at ends and both joints cracked with rear board more tenuous than front as underlying binding mesh is exposed lengthwise along joint and hinge. Edges toned; strong foxing and toning to endpapers; rear endpapers soiled with edgeworn rear free endpaper detached and now laid-in; past owner's ink signature on front free endpaper. Some soiling to leaves; moderate to occasionally strong foxing as well as toning to interior leaves (affecting both map and text pages) with latter caused by once laid-in but now removed unrelated ephemera items. A few later leaves and maps affected by small bug damage chips and related patches of abrasion at fore-edge margins and top margins; strong bumping at bottoms of pages 137 onward. OCLC indicates that this 1913 Ogle and Co. imprint was preceded by an 1893 Ogle & Co. edition; a third edition was published by Brock & Company in 1929.
