In seven chapters, the influence of Horace on Boileau's satires and epistles is studied. We also observe Boileau's familiarity with Persius' satires and with one of Martial's most famous epigrams. Three chapters demonstrate the fabulist La Fontaine's employment of material from Horace. The influence of Ovid's Metamorphoses is clear in La Fontaine's retelling of two of the finest stories that have come down to us from antiquity, "Philemon and Baucis" and "Pyramus and Thisbe".
