Spine, raised bands, gilt tooling, titles in gilt to red calf label, cracked along upper joint. Internally, title, dedication & pr…eface leaves followed by thirty hand coloured plates each with a leaf of descriptive text (printed both sides and in 2 columns), not paginated, plates dated 1815 or 1816, & some watermarked Whatman 1811/1814/1817, bookplate to fpd (WB Dukes), occasional spot mainly to blanks, upper hinge going held by ties Drawn by T. Compton. Engraved by I. Baily, Daniel Havell, or T. Cartwright. A lovely example, with clean plates, depicting wonderful views. (oblong, 329*241 mm). (Tooley 155. Bobins 632. Not listed at Prideaux). A beautiful book with only minor rubbing to edges, armorial bookplate to fpd (Frederick Cass). The 1st edition had only 20 plates whilst this, the 2nd has 39, and has a new title and plates. Describing the scenery and general characters of that romantic country, embellished with a series of highly finished coloured views engraved from original drawings by Turner, Compton, Robson, Gandy, Nicholson, Girtin, De Wint, Fielding and Proust., An excellent Example.
