En el Congreso participaron numerosos expertos, mayoritariamente del entorno académico, que analizaron diversas iniciativas de la Unión Europea en materia de sociedades de capital, y su impacto previsible (y en algunos caos, inminente) sobre la reforma del Derecho español. El congreso abordó, de entrada, los contenidos de la Directiva (UE) 2017/828 del Parlamento Europeo y del Consejo de 17 de mayo de 2017, por la que se modifica la Directiva 2007/36/CE en lo que respecta al fomento de la implicación a largo plazo de los accionistas de sociedades cotizadas. La oportunidad de su tratamiento no pudo ser mayor, puesto que el 24 de mayo, en el límite del plazo para su trasposición, el Ministerio de Economía y Empresa hizo público el borrador del Anteproyecto de Ley que pretende incorporar la Directiva al Derecho español, modificando leyes tan importantes como la Ley de Sociedades de Capital, del Mercado de Valores, de Auditoría de Cuentas, del Anteproyecto, no hace sino reforzar la utilidad de una obra como la que ahora se presenta al público.
