Octavo. 62pp; 90pp, 63pp. With frontispiece engravings to the Beggar's Opera and Congreve's The Mourning Bride. Three plays published in one volume. Poor condition. The contents (pages) are fair to good, but the covers are very worn and rubbed, with the front board detached and the rear board held by one thread; the spine leather very dessicated. Contents all present but many pages browned or grubby, first engraving has an old stain from red wax over it, second one repaired tear; original owner's name in various places and date (Nicholas and Wm Greaves, 1782, Bakewell).

In full contemporary calf, somewhat worn, front joint and hinge neatly repaired. Owners' names to endpapers and title page, otherwise very clean and sound. ESTC ref T123512. Dryden translated a number of Juvenal's satires himself, and selected others, including his sons Charles and John, to translate the rest. The Persius satires are all by Dryden, with an introductory letter by Congreve.

Bound in contemorary calf with raised bands gilt title and embelishments to the compartments now all very faded git ruling to the outside of the boards hinges `weak and starting but holding well.
