Nicht nur die Kleidung wird nachvollziehbar. Auch die [.] Bürsten finden sich immer wieder auf den Darstellungen. Die wohl schönste Bildquelle ist ein Album, das am 7. April 1853 den Teilnehmern an der Einweihung der Töchterschule beim Grossmünster überreicht wurde. Die Regie des geistvollen Jugendfestes mit Schüleraufführungen führte der Kinderfreund Heinrich Cramer, dem die Zünfte bekanntlich zahlreiche kostümierte Festumzüge verdankten. Die Lithographien mit den einzelnen Szenen stammen vom Zürcher Zeichner und Kupferstecher Johann Konrad Werdmüller (1819-1892). Ab ca. 1880 engagierte sich C. auch in Politik und Wirtschaft: 1882-98 Zürcher Kantonsrat, 1883-1900 Nationalrat (liberale Mitte bzw. liberal-demokrat.). 1876-1900 amtierte er als Vorstand, 1882-91 als Präs. der Kaufmänn. Gesellschaft Zürich (heute Zürcher Handelskammer). 1882-1900 Präs. des Schweiz. Handels- und Industrievereins (SHIV). 1878-91 Verwaltungsrat der Schweiz. Kreditanstalt, 1880-85 Aufsichtsrat der Schweiz. Lebensversicherungs- und Rentenanstalt, 1879-84 im Verwaltungskomitee der NZZ (1882-83 Präs.).C. gehörte zu den führenden Wirtschaftsvertretern des ausgehenden 19. Jh. Mit Artikeln, Reden und z.T. umfassenden Gutachten und Eingaben prägte er die Diskussion über zentrale wirtschaftspolit.
