Hardcover, no jacket, a splendid example of this vintage nature title for young or old adults, it features a clean, bright green cloth cover with deer illustrations in gold on the front cover and spine and 8 full-page black & white illustrations of deer throughout, each page has very nice margin-drawings, the book has mild surface-wear at the spine-ends and corners and a school ownership stamp is present but not prominent on the decorative front end-paper, no other remarkable flaws to this fine gift copy.

The first full book he illustrated was Robert Louis Stevenson's A Child's Garden of Verses (1895), He illustrated many fairy tales and children's books throughout his career."
