Notre exemplaire; l'édition vénitienne de 1601 est l'une des premières réimpressions d'un ouvrage qui connaîtra un réel succès éditorial avec de nombreuses éditions au XVIIe siècle. Le titre peut être traduit approximativement par "Le remède contre l'oisiveté" ou "La fuite de l'oisiveté". Le mot Fuggilozio est une création de l'auteur : fuggire (fuir) + ozio (oisiveté). L'idée est que la lecture de récits édifiants et divertissants protège des dangers moraux de l'oisiveté. L'ouvrage est construit sur le modèle du Décaméron de Giovanni Boccaccio : un groupe de nobles personnages (huit gentilshommes et deux dames) se réunit et raconte des histoires réparties sur huit journées.
