Sie basiert auf langjähriger Forschungsarbeit des Museums der Weltkulturen (früher: Museum für Völkerkunde). -- Jak Katarikawe ist seit 1975 in einem freundschaftlichen Verhältnis dem Museum verbunden. Seit 1974 begann das Museum durch die Autorin der jetzigen Ausstellung, Johanna Agthe, zeitgenössische afrikanische Kunst zu sammeln und zu dokumentieren. Sozusagen eine Pionierarbeit in Hinblick auf die Rezeption afrikanischer moderner Kunst. Dies gilt um so mehr, als sich erst Ende der 80er Jahre der Westen vermehrt für zeitgenössische Interpretationen und Bilder des Afrikas südlich der Sahara interessierte. -- Die Arbeiten von Jak Katarikawe wurzeln in seiner Heimat, dem Land der Kiga.
