AUTHOR: Masterly collaboration between the French photographer Jean (Jacques) Roubier and the scholar André Courtens. Roubier was a celebrated documentarian of European architectural heritage, renowned for his technical precision and his ability to capture the 'soul' of monumental stone through light and shadow. His photography in this edition required a specialised large-format printing process to maintain its clarity. André Courtens, a preeminent medievalist, provided the rigorous historical framework; the additional 14 pages present in this limited edition likely contain his expanded 'Critical Notes' and site-specific analyses which were edited out of later trade versions. Together, they produced the definitive mid-century visual archive of the Belgian Romanesque style.
