Robin Hood by Paul Creswick: published in London by Ernest Nister in the very early 1900s (publisher's "103" identifier code is present to foot of title-page), this is a delightful antiquarian edition of the classic story of Robin Hood and his merry men adventuring on the ou…tskirts of the city of Nottingham. With a colour frontispiece, three further colour plate illustrations, and eight b&w drawings - all of which are very charmingly rendered by the illustrator T H Robinson (1869-1954). The story is told by Paul Creswick. Without any serious defects, the book remains a well preserved example overall, and presents handsomely with a nice, decorative design to its bevelled hardcover boards. Unusually, there are no inscriptions. The binding, though delicate (the contents page is a little loose) and a bit fragile now through the passing of time, is without any major issues and being a stitched binding is generally sound. General, age-related wear is in keeping with the book's age, though aside from the usual page browning remains free from foxing or soiling. Unrestored, an authentic and antique addition to any period style library of English classics - and the gilt page edges do lend a little something extra. Specifications: approx. 15cm x 21cm.
