Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. Oversized & heavy hardcover, L + 598pp + 12 pages of glossy b&w photos, map endpapers, NOT ex-library. Book is clean and bright throughout with unmarked text, free of inscriptions and stamps. Binding shows light wear. Boards with short creases to edges. -- If there had been all-news television channels in 1956, viewers around the world would have been glued to their sets between October 23 and November 4. This book tells the story of the Hungarian Revolution in 120 original documents, ranging from the minutes of the first meeting of Khrushchev with Hungarian bosses after Stalin's death in 1953 to Yeltsin's declaration made in 1992. Other documents include letters from Yuri Andropov, Soviet Ambassador in Budapest during and after the revolt. The great majority of the material appears in English for the first time, and almost all come from archives that were inaccessible until the 1990s. "There is no publication, in any language, that would even approach the thoroughness, reliability, and novelty of this monumental work. Unlike all the other documentary collection, The 1956 Hungarian Revolution is based mainly on recently opened original sources in the Hungarian, Soviet and US archives." -- Contents: Preface by Árpád Göncz; Foreword by Charles Gati; Introductory Essay by Timothy Garton Ash; Editors' Introduction and Acknowledgments; Acronyms and Abbreviations; Chronology of Events; 1. Hungary Before the Revolution [Introduction; Documents No 1-24]; 2. From Demonstrations to Revolution [Introduction; Documents No 25-81]; 3. Hungary in the Aftermath [Introduction; Documents No 82-118]; Documentary Epilogue [Documents No 119-120]; Main Actors; Organizations; Bibliography; Index.

Aggiungi al carrelloTaschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - This book compares the various aspects - political, military economic - of Soviet occupation in Austria, Hungary and Romania. Using documents found in Austrian, Hungarian, Romanian and Russian archives the authors argue that the nature of Soviet foreign policy has been misunderstood. Existing literature has focused on the Soviet foreign policy from a political perspective; when and why Stalin made the decision to introduce Bolshevik political systems in the Soviet sphere of influence. This book will show that the Soviet conquest of East-Central Europe had an imperial dimension as well and allowed the Soviet Union to use the territory it occupied as military and economic space. The final dimension of the book details the tragically human experiences of Soviet occupation: atrocities, rape, plundering and deportations.

Aggiungi al carrelloBuch. Condizione: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - The Handbook introduces to readers (accessibly for specialist and non-specialist scholars, students and layman audiences) the diverse universe of non-state actors (NSAs) that have played or are currently playing a significant role in the context of East-West relations (from 1945 to the present). With a view to the oft-seen political debates about which non- state actors may be independent or controlled by particular states, and in what ways they may be useful or harmful to the interests of particular actors, this volume is interested in analysing and assessing the relationship of NSAs to key state actors in the context of the politics of East-West relations. Key state actors in this context include more than just the United States (on the one hand) and the Soviet Union or Russia (on the other hand). To offer a structured overview, the volume explores possible typologies of the relationships conceivable between NSAs and states. New concepts and organising principles are presented, to support a process-tracing analysis of the evolution of proxy ships, partnerships and other types of connections between states and non-state actors. Degrees, sources and types of control and influence are considered. Further, the Handbook's chapters also examine NSAs' impact on the dynamics of interstate conflict and cooperation in the East-West dimension. The systematic examination of the relationship between states and NSAs in East-West relations proposed here is the first undertaking of its kind. International scholarship in political science and strategic analyses have so far neglected to develop an analytical framework and a truly nuanced understanding that could capture the intricate and multilevel relationships that exists between NSAs and states in this context.
