Alfred Jacobus Dührssen (1862-1933) gilt als einer der Begründer der modernen operativen Gynäkologie. Er wurde bekannt durch seine vaginalen Operationsmethoden, darunter den vaginalen Kaiserschnitt. 1919 schlug…Dührssen vor, geburtshilfliche Ambulatorien einzurichten. Unter dem Gesichtspunkt der Hygiene forderte er, Anstaltsgeburten idealerweise für jede schwangere Frau anzubieten. Er schlug außerdem vor, dass sich jede schwangere Frau vier Wochen vor dem Geburtstermin in der Anstalt vorstellt, um mögliche Geburtsstörungen oder Abnormalitäten bereits vor der Geburt festzustellen.

Alfred Dührssen (1862-1933) erhielt seine medizinische Ausbildung in Marburg und in Berlin, wo er 1884 promoviert wurde, von 1886-92 Assistent und Oberarzt an der Geburtshilflich-gynäkologisch…en Klinik der Charité in Berlin, 1888 für das Fach habilitiert (1895 Tit.Prof.), gründete er 1892 eine Privatklinik für Frauenkrankheiten in Berlin. Dührssen gehört zu den Pionieren der vaginalen Operationsmethoden. Von ihm stammen die tiefen Zervixinzisionen bei verzögerter Geburt, die Vaginofixation mit Eröffnung der Bauchhöhle (gleichzeitig mit Mackenrodt) und die erste Anregung zum vaginalen Kaiserschnitt. Auch der fälschlich nach SCHUCHARDT benannte Schnitt wurde von Dührssen zuerst angegeben. Seinen Namen führen weiter D.sche Tamponade und D.schen Büchsen. -cf.Fischer, p.336.
