Some pencil marks were erased on front endpaper. Some foxing and soiling on text, but does not obscure text. Previous owner neatly coloured two illustrations. Hinges ok.

The binding has fading to spine and board edges together with a little pulling to the spine. Many text pages are unopened. One play (Uncle Tom's Cabin) has been read and occasionally annotated in pencil. Occasional spotting but generally clean.

Blue cloth, black illustration of a fox and stork to front board, spine darkened. Good.

Good book in pictorial board covers; picture to front shows a young boy with a hoop addressing a pieman; light grey linen strip to spine; corner rubs. Internally good and free of inscriptions; copiously illustrated with text drawings and full colour plates; frontispiece is 'Pat-a-Cake'; some of the colour plates have been re-fixed; text binding tight; no foxing. A very attractive copy of the presumed first edition listed for 1920 although the style of dress on front cover suggests an earlier date. The book was apparently re-issued by Nelson in a slightly different format in 1940.
