Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. A superb facsimile of the only known notebook of legendary artist Anni Albers, this publication offers insight into the methodology of a modern master. Beginning in 1972, Anni Albers filled her graph-paper notebook regularly until 1980. This rare and previously unpublished document of her working process contains intricate drawings for her large body of graphic work, as well as studies for her late knot drawings. The notebook follows Albers's deliberations and progression as a draftsman in their original form. It reveals the way she went about making complex patterns, exploring them piece by piece, line by line in a visually dramatic and mysteriously beautiful series of geometric arrangements. An afterword by Brenda Danilowitz, Chief Curator of The Josef and Anni Albers Foundation, contextualizes the notebook and explores the role studies played in the development of her work. A superb facsimile of the only known notebook of legendary artist Anni Albers, this publication offers insight into the methodology of a modern master. Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. Swiss architect Hannes Meyer (1889-1954) was the second director of the Bauhaus (then at its Dessau location) from 1928 to 1930. Though he held the post but briefly, Meyer made substantial changes to the school's educational program and teaching approach, notably by prioritizing concrete social issues in the design process. Building on recent research, this book offers an in-depth assessment of Meyer's major contributions to the Bauhaus curriculum, investigating the intellectual background to his approach through contributions from 31 authors, including former teachers and students at the school. With over 250 illustrations, the book also examines the impact of Meyer's work beyond the Bauhaus, specifically at the Ulm School of Design (founded by one of Meyer's former students, Max Bill) and in Mexico, where Meyer worked for the government's Instituto del Urbanismo y Planificacion from 1939 to 1941. Building on new research, the book reveals both the intellectual background to his teaching concept and the specific classroom practice in individual subject areas, while also giving space to teachers and students to have their say. Hardcover. Condizione: As new. Small square quarto. Hardcover.Black cloth spine over white paper boards in white illustrated jacket with bronze titles. xiii, 79 pages, 24 unnumbered pages of plates : illustrations (some color) ; 24 cm. Anni Albers (1899-1994) was one of the most influential textile designers of the 20th century. Born in Berlin, in 1922 she became a student at the Bauhaus in Weimar, where she met her husband, Josef Albers. From 1933 to 1949 Albers taught at Black Mountain College. The fifteen essays gathered here illustrate Anni Albers's concept of design as the pursuit of wholeness -- "the coalition of form answering practical needs and form answering aesthetic needs." This beautifully illustrated book addresses the artistic and practical concerns of modern design and considers the ever-changing role of the designer.
