Aggiungi al carrelloSoft cover. Condizione: Very Good. 1st Edition. 1970 LEO CASTELLI GALLERY EXHIBITION CATALOGUE + BOUND COLOR SCREEN PRINT Complete original Castelli exhibition catalogue with a specially bound screen print celebrating the launch of Leo Castelli's Graphics subsidiary at 4 East 77, New York, the most important and influential art dealer of his time. LOT DESCRIPTION, PLEASE READ By 1970 Leo Castelli was already well on his way to becoming the most powerful art dealer in the world making this early 16 page catalogue a critical reference work for art historians tracking the data and provenance behind post-war American art or wishing to research and re-activate dormant IP in their own inventory. Held from December 19th 1970 to January 9th 1971 at Castelli Gallery's Uptown location at 4 East 77th Street in New York, this showcase marked the official physical opening and debut footprint of Castelli Graphics, a brand-new subsidiary created by Castelli. While his main gallery revolutionized the staging of massive Pop Art installations, Minimalism and Conceptual Art, Castelli Graphics was dedicated solely to prints, multiples, and lithographs allowing avant-garde art to be distributed at a broader, highly accessible commercial scale. The launch spotlighted graphic multiples and prints from the gallery's heaviest hitters including legendary figures like Richard Artschwager, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg and Nassos Daphnis. True to the aesthetic identity of the Castelli Gallery, his catalogue features an understated gray-green cardboard/paper wrapper with only a stark black sans-serif address typography. Despite the austere cover the catalogue is highly collectible because it contains an original color silkscreen print by artist Nassos Daphnis bound directly inside. Daphnis was represented by the Leo Castelli Gallery for nearly 40 years. He was highly valued by Castelli who gave him 17 solo exhibitions. This made Daphnis the third most exhibited artist in the gallery's history, trailing only Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg. Castelli frequently praised Daphnis's strict, zero-sentiment visual rigor. His works sit firmly within the permanent collections of the world's most prestigious art institutions including The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and The Whitney Museum of American Art. CONDITION Impossible to find exhibition catalogue with bound screen print in very good condition. Sized approximately 22 cm x 28 cm weighing 95 grams prior to packaging. Please refer to the many large photographs provided which are of the actual catalogue / screen print you are buying to reassure yourself of the exact condition. Richard Artschwager, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg and Nassos Daphnis. (illustratore).…
