De ahí nace la idea de realizar una entrevista al Papa con el fin de componer un marco unitario de su relación con el cine, si bien va aún más allá. En esta entrevista, el Santo Padre afirma la fuerza documental de las imágenes y de las películas de cine, reconociendo en algunas de ellas un valor universal y una capacidad de interpelar al corazón del hombre. En palabras del Papa Francisco: ?Ver es una acción que se lleva a cabo solo con los ojos, para mirar son necesarios los ojos y el corazón. Las películas neorrealistas no son documentales que presentan una simple grabación ocular de la realidad; presentan la realidad, sí, pero con toda su crudeza, a través de una mirada que compromete, que conmueve las entrañas, que suscita compasión. ? Además de la entrevista, el volumen se compone de un ensayo que propone una reflexión acerca de la importancia de la mirada, entre memoria e historia, a partir de la experiencia del neorrealismo italiano: un análisis que contempla el fenómeno neorrealista sin pretensiones filológicas sino que trata de extender la interpretación a la luz de los acontecimientos presentes y de las específicas reflexiones del Papa sobre este cine. Enriquecen el volumen las obras inéditas y originales del artista Walter Capriotti que reinterpretan algunos de las míticas películas del neorrealismo, extendiendo la mirada más allá de este cine. Una obra original para reflexionar acerca de la aportación del cine y del valor de la cultura cinematográfica en la sociedad de nuestros días.
