Sie beobachtet nüchtern, konzeptuell, aber anteilnehmend die persönlichen und kollektiven Details der Posen. 1988, 1997 und nun wieder 2014 nahm sie mit den Porträtierten erneut Kontakt auf und dokumentiert formal konsequent Kontinuität oder Veränderung, den Wechsel der Beziehungen, die Metamorphosen der Selbstdarstellung. Ausgehend von den ursprünglichen zwölf Doppelportraits entstanden so Beziehungs-Stammbäume mit - je nach Partnerwechsel - bis zu sechzehn Paaren oder Bildsujets. Die Reihen sind gewachsen - es kamen vierzehn Kinder dazu, mittlerweile auch Enkelkinder. Die Arbeit umfasst nun drei Generationen. Zum ursprünglichen Thema der Selbstdarstellung sind längst andere Themen dazu gekommen. So erzählen diese Portrait-Reihen, ohne explizite Informationen preiszugeben, inzwischen von Veränderungen unterschiedlichster Art - modischen, physischen und biografischen. Sie erzählen von Trennungen, vom Älter-Werden, von Verlust, vom Wachsen der Familien und der Weitergabe von familiären Eigenheiten. Aber immer auch von der jeweiligen gesellschaftlichen Gegenwart. Um es auf den Punkt zu bringen: Es geht in dieser Arbeit um ein Sichtbar-Machen des Flusses der Zeit - und was er mit uns macht. Das Buch ist eine ebenso schnörkellose wie epische Langzeitbeobachtung eines urbanen Milieus, die ihresgleichen sucht.

Portraits 1982, 1988, 1997 gilt mittlerweile als Klassiker. Nun setzt die Fotografin ihre konzeptuelle Langzeit-Portraitserie fort und fotografierte 2014…ihre Sujets erneut, 32 Jahre nach den ersten Aufnahmen. Vor einem hellgrauen Hintergrund in ihrem Fotostudio, in strikter Frontalität und mit Blick in die Kamera, porträtiert Barbara Davatz 1982 erstmals zwölf junge Paare, die verliebt, befreundet oder verwandt sind. Sie beobachtet nüchtern, konzeptuell, aber anteilnehmend die persönlichen und kollektiven Details der Posen. 1988, 1997 und nun wieder 2014 nahm sie mit den Porträtierten erneut Kontakt auf und dokumentiert formal konsequent Kontinuität oder Veränderung, den Wechsel der Beziehungen, die Metamorphosen der Selbstdarstellung. Ausgehend von den ursprünglichen zwölf Doppelportraits entstanden so Beziehungs-Stammbäume mit ? je nach Partnerwechsel ? bis zu sechzehn Paaren oder Bildsujets. Die Reihen sind gewachsen ? es kamen vierzehn Kinder dazu, mittlerweile auch Enkelkinder. Die Arbeit umfasst nun drei Generationen. Zum ursprünglichen Thema der Selbstdarstellung sind längst andere Themen dazu gekommen. So erzählen diese Portrait-Reihen, ohne explizite Informationen preiszugeben, inzwischen von Veränderungen unterschiedlichster Art ? modischen, physischen und biografischen. Sie erzählen von Trennungen, vom Älter-Werden, von Verlust, vom Wachsen der Familien und der Weitergabe von familiären Eigenheiten. Aber immer auch von der jeweiligen gesellschaftlichen Gegenwart. Um es auf den Punkt zu bringen: Es geht in dieser Arbeit um ein Sichtbar-Machen des Flusses der Zeit ? und was er mit uns macht.
