Selected correspondence of George Macartney (Baron 1776, Earl, 1792), Governor of Madras (then known as Fort St. George),1780-85, edited by Collin Cuthbert Davies (1896-1806), Reader in History, University of Oxford. Macartney (1737-1806) was an Irish peer, diplomat, politician and MP, and colonial administrator, who variously served as Ambassador to Russia and China and as Governor of Grenada and the Cape Colony.
