Hannington went to Uganda as a Christian Missionary and was killed in 1885 at 38. There is a church named after him in Hove, England, near where he was born. Green covers with pink and light-green floral decoration and lettering to front and spine, 190pp with numerous b/w illustrations from Hannington's own African sketches. Dated 1917, 31st thousand. Foxing to early pages and edges. Spine weakening in places and one plate loose between pp118-119, strange round marks where something has been left in the book pp138-143, mild bumping to extremities and spine lettering fading, but still an attractive copy. Hardcover. Condizione: Good. Undated, 'thirty eighth thousand' the only edition remarks. The boards show light wear to the corners, sunned spine and slight bumping to the spine edges, general light fading, bow to the front board. The front hinge is cracked beyond the end papers and there is one other gutter gap (photo 5), but the thick leaves are secure and tight. The pages are generally clean, with the odd faint to moderate foxing spot (more so to a few of the endmost pages). Moderate spotting to the text block edges, with a noticeable spot to the fore-edge and a little dirt rubbed to the bottom. Measures 19.9 x 13.2 x 4.0cm. 190 pages.
