Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Very Good Plus. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good Minus. 1st Edition. Stated First Edition. You can see the blue covers in the photos. They are very clean. The gilt lettering on the spine is very bright. The top and middle edges look very good. The bottom edges have some small whitish spots, just a littl…e color loss. The corners have little to no rubbing. The front bottom one has some crinkling from the bump/crease that you can see in the photo. The spine ends have just a little bit of crinkling as well. I don't see any stains on the page edges. The book has a slight forward lean, but is solidly bound from cover to cover without any issues. The covers are nicely tight. The front inside cover and front end paper are illustrated with U.S. Marine Corps Aviation insignia. The rear inside cover and rear end paper form a map of 'The Advance of Marine Aviation through the Pacific in World War II.' The inside covers and end papers are in very good shape. The same goes for all of the pages in the book. I've scrolled through them several times and haven't found any instances of soiling. The bump/crease at the front bottom corner surprisingly didn't create any creases on any of the pages, and I'm not seeing any conspicuous creasing anywhere in the book. Nor are there any markings or attachments. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere. There are four 8 page sections of photographs, so 32 pages in total. They are on glossy paper, but I'm not seeing any foxing or spotting on any of them. They are in very good shape. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photos. I think it's done pretty well for a book published in 1947. It does have that diagonal crease just got off the front bottom edge, and there are several tiny tears off the top edge of the rear cover. There's also small loss off the top edge of the spine, maybe a tiny loss at the bottom edge of the spine. There are two thin brown stains on the rear cover, and there are the typical tiny losses at the corners. The top and bottom corners of the front flap are clipped, so the price is gone. The flaps are otherwise in solid condition. I've always had the jacket in a fitted protective cover. I removed it to better assess the condition of the jacket and will replace it with a new fitted protective cover before the photos are scanned. From the dust jacket: 'This is the stirring story of Marine Corps Aviation in World War II. It is not a critique or judgment in the armchair sense but rather a reportorial, well documented accounts of what the Air Arm of the Corps did in supporting 55 amphibious landings, shooting down nearly 2400 Japanese planes and sinking some 900 enemy ships. A hundred thousand men served in Marine Aviation during the late war-- this is their story accurately and authoritatively told. Captain De Chant's book is the end result of nearly four years of close study in intimate association with the members and campaigns of Marine Aviation.' This book was originally sent to one of those 'armchair critics'. An original Harper & Brothers notice was still in the book. On it is printed 'To the Literary Editor: Direct quotation in reviews is limited to 500 words unless special permission is given.' Also 'Please do not release reviews before publication date.' And 'Date Of Publication Sep 3 1947, Price $3.00.' A 4 is penciled over the 3.
