With brief texts on origin, value, distribution, form and production of script and healing tokens, followed by a brief text on these objects "Made in Germany," their application and usage as well as their legal protection. The following 24 Japan Fold pages contain color and b/w lithographs of fifty designs by Hinkefuss and Deffke, including coporate trade marks, signs with religious and educational meaning as well as crests, and various fields of the market and public life, e.g. the Red Cross or the owl as a sign for deep and unremitting study. The designs are printed to recto and verso of each fold with a protective leaf inserted in fold. This section if preceeded by a text page reading: "Pivotal for Success in Busines is, next to quality, the paramount brand." Gallery of famous and not so well known symbols created by Wilhelmswerk. This catalog includes the designs of the Red Cross, Swastika, Lloyd-Einhorn, Kolibri, Deutsches Reichswappen, Deutsche Werkkunst (Carl Ernst Hinkefuss), among others. Only a few of the symbols were slightly altered to fit into the overall frame of designs from Wilhelmswerk. All of those symbols are well known and recognizable without commentary. Text in German. Glassine with chips and closed tears, predominantely along spine. Dustjacket with light wear along edges, small chips and closed tear at tail of spine, head with small chip. Block lightly age-toned and at times offsetting on facing pages. Glassine in fair, dustjacket in good, interior in very good condition. Rare.

Rare work of the advertising artist and pioneer of the modern advertising graphic designer Carl Ernest Hinkefuss, who founded his own advertising agency in 1915 with Wilhelm Deffke. Hinkefuss founded the advertising agency in 1920 Internati…o GmbH International Propaganda for quality products. The focus of his work was the design of trademarks - over 400 original designs of trademarks and logos have been preserved in his estate. The illustrations mainly show color and trade marks, including designs by the commercial artist and book artist WH Deffke, who worked in the studio of Peter Behrens and belonged to the avant-garde of the new typography. Excellent specimen of typography, color, design, and advertising from early 20th century Germany. Bound in color pictorial boards with numerous mounted color illustrations and frontispiece portrait. Slightly loose title page and tanning to overall boards and paper, otherwise, illustrations are vibrant and the binding intact. Boards have sustained some chipping, scuffs, and creases. Large fo. 97pp. Illus. (b/w, color, fold-out plate on page 67). Handnumbered, this copy being 210, and also has signature of Hinkefuss under portrait frontispiece. Text in German.

OBroschur. Condizione: Sehr gut. Schutzumschlag. Die Deutsche Theater-Ausstellung Magdeburg 1927 öffnete ihre Pforten am 14. Mai 1927 und schloß sie am 25. Oktober 1927. Ambitioniert, ja fast größenwahnsinnig hielt dieses - wie man es heute nennen könnte - Event nicht nur Magdeburg, sondern eine ganze Region wie auch die deutsch…e und internationale Theaterszene in Atem. Eine ganze Stadt war quasi Theater, wunderbar gelegen direkt am Adolf-Mittag-See und Elbe. Eine Stadthalle wurde gebaut und ein Turm, der als eine Ikone der (Theater-)Architektur gilt. Zahlreiche große, kleine wie auch internationale Theater präsentierten Exponate und Inszenierungen. Die DThAM 1927 war Geschichts- und Leistungsschau, Treffpunkt der (internationalen) Theaterszene, beliebtes Ausflugsziel und eine logistische Meisterleistung. Ihr größter Verdienst liegt vielleicht darin, sowohl die Stadttheaterszene wie auch die Avantgardisten unter einem Dach vereinigt zu haben. Bis Juni 1926 war Wilhelm Deffke mit der Ausstellungsarchitektur betraut, danach Prof. Albinmüller.
