Con un grabado al acero en frontispicio fuera de texto con firma del Marques, realizado por Eduardo Cano, (probablemente el pintor Eduardo Cano Peña). pinto y D. Martinez grabo. Sobre el Pintor del grabado del Retrato del Marques:Cano de la Peña, Eduardo (Madrid, 1823-Sevilla, 1897). Pintor e ilustrador español. Siendo niño se trasladó a Sevilla, ya que su padre fue nombrado arquitecto mayor de la ciudad. Por indicación paterna inició estudios de arquitectura, pero los abandonó por los de dibujo y música en la Real Escuela de las Tres Nobles Artes de Sevilla. Al poco tiempo fue nombrado académico de número de la Escuela de Bellas Artes de Santa Isabel de Hungría y profesor ayudante de dibujo, colorido y composición. Al fallecer sus padres volvió a Madrid y continuó los estudios bajo la dirección de Carlos Luis Ribera y de José y Federico de Madrazo. Este último le encargó varios retratos de monarcas para la «Serie cronológica de los reyes de España» en el Museo del Prado. Continuó sus estudios en París, desde donde envió a la Exposición Nacional de 1856 el cuadro de historia Cristóbal Colón en el convento de la Rábida, y al año siguiente Entierro del condestable don Álvaro de Luna, que obtuvieron sendas primeras medallas y que pertenecen al Museo del Prado. Llegó a ser uno de los más afamados pintores de historia de su generación. A su vuelta a Sevilla, simultaneó su actividad académica con la pictórica, siendo nombrado conservador del Museo de Bellas Artes de Sevilla entre otros cargos oficiales. Como colaborador gráfico trabajó para El Arte en España y Museo Universal, así como para el periódico quincenal La Bonanza, de Sevilla. Size: 17x23cm.
