We really like the writing style, as an example the description of arriving by train to play Dornoch: "The joyous awakening in the sleeper at Pitlochry in the early morning; the up-flung blind to the panorama of loveliness of loch and crag and sun-splashed streams; the cup of tea and the first cigarette lying there in regal luxury". Makes you yearn for the days of rail travel. Also a great piece of history of both the evolution of the game and courses in the British Isles. Birkdale and Troon had not yet received their Royal designations and are listed as such in the book.
