Ce livre, publié pour la première fois en 1618, est celui qui a introduit le compas en France. Le mathématicien Denis (ou Didier) Henrion imagina ce compas fabriqué par Daniel Chorez. Plus simple que celui de Galilé, qu'Henrion ne connaissait pas, il comprend seulement quatre lignes, celle des parties égales, des plans, des cordes et des solides.
