Louis Amédée Mante (1826-1913) was a French photographer and inventor whose later career coincided with that of his co-worker and later son-in-law Edmond Goldschmidt (1863-1934). Louis Amédée Mante reportedly developed his own process for colouring photographic prints in Paris in 1895 which he called 'Mantochrome'. He increasingly worked alongside Edmond Goldschmidt, a wealthy and talented young photographer who won a gold medal for his coloured photographs at the 1892 Paris Exposition and later married one of Mante's daughters. Mante lived in the same building as Edgar Degas and there exists a painting of the \Mante family by Degas. (1.3 JM LVR 206/3 Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾". Exhibition Catalogue.
