Devas also wrote the Manual of Political Economy for the Stonyhurst Philosophical Series in 1892, which had enduring success as a textbook used by schools and seminaries. Before attending Oxford, he had converted to Catholicism, which remained a constant cent…re of his writings. Henry de Trafford (1877-1915) was educated at Balliol, like Devas, after attending the Jesuit boarding school Stonyhurst. He became a Captain in the 2nd Battalion of the South Staffordshire regiment, and died in France on 25 September 1915. The War Diary records that, on the day of his death, the company, "came on splendidly, ably led by Capt. de Trafford, who behaved with the greatest coolness and daring". Prize label for Economics, dated 1897, presented to "Henricus de Trafford". Spine sunned, couple light scratches to covers, corners worn, and with spot of insect wear, a little foxing to outer leaves. A very good copy.
