Dopo aver studiato musica e archite…ttura, si è dedicato alla pittura, esponendo le sue opere per la prima volta nel 1941. Dal 1944 si orienta verso l'astrattismo geometrico. Fonda un Atelier d'art abstrait (1950) a Parigi. Nel 1951 realizza "antisculture" con oggetti di uso industriale e appositamente costruiti. Tra le sue opere monumentali, nelle quali si esalta il colore e la semplificazione delle forme geometriche come archetipi della civiltà e della tecnologia industriale, ci sono la decorazione dello Stadio del ghiaccio di Grenoble (1967), l'affresco per la nuova facoltà di medicina nell'università di Lille (1969), il grandioso environment per il Museo di belle Arti di Grenoble (1970), la decorazione per la metropolitana di Hannover (1975), la Muraille Antipode in place d'Italie a Parigi (1976). Dal 1986 al 1989 a Parigi (Grande Arche de le Défense) ha realizzato quattro gigantesche pitture murali (per un totale di 15 mila m2 ca.), classificate tra le più grandi al mondo."Il quadro non è una rappresentazione o una riduzione dell'uomo, cioè un uomo con qualcosa in meno. E' invece un oggetto dotato di vita propria e indipendente, il quale accoppia il meglio dell'uomo al meglio della materia. Il quadro non presenta tanto l'immagine dell'uomo, quanto dei fatti nuovi, che esso soltanto ha la possibilità di rivelare. Apre in tal modo orizzonti sconosciuti e insospettati dall'uomo." Former owner's name in pencil at top left corner of front wrapper: "Munsing" From the collection of Stefan P. Munsing [1915-1994] who worked in New York City as a designer for Hans Knoll, Norman Bel Geddes and RCA. Munsing served in the Army in World War II, then as Chief of the Monuments, Fine-Arts & Archives Section in Munich. The MFAA was an Army unit locating stolen artworks which had disappeared into the huge Nazi hoards during the war. [The "Monuments Men"] Munsing later joined the U. S. Department of State during the later 1940's and '50's, where he established the State Department's Amerika Haus programs in Munich and Berlin and organized exhibitions and cultural programs in Germany and Austria. In 1955, he was named cultural officer at the American Embassy in London, where he staged exhibitions of such New York artists as Philip Pavia, Paul Jenkins and Ben Shahn and became an important force in the London art world. Munsing returned to the U. S. In the 1960's and 70's where he helped establish the contemporary art collection of the National Museum of Fine Arts in Washington (now the National Museum of American Art) and headed the State Department's Art in Embassies program. In retirement from the State Department after 1976, Mr. Munsing was a consultant to the American Association of Museums. .

Première édition illu…strée 16 lithographies de Jean Dewasne, dont 8 en couleurs à pleine page, 4 en couleurs insérées dans le texte, un monochrome jaune à pleine page, une composition en noir à pleine page et un double triptyque en couleurs, dépliant. Tirage limité à 125 exemplaires signés par l'artiste, Denise René et l'imprimeur J. H. Schultz. Un des 10 exemplaires de tête comportant une gouache originale de Jean Dewasne ayant servi à l'illustration (p. 40), justifiée et signée au verso par l'artiste. Les lithographies réalisées pour ce livre par Jean Dewasne (1921-1999), l'un des maîtres français de l'abstraction, forment sans conteste la meilleure illustration la seule possible ? de ce texte énigmatique et incendiaire, dans lequel Lautréamont déclare : «La poésie personnelle a fait son temps de jongleries relatives et de contorsions contingentes. Reprenons le fil indestructible de la poésie impersonnelle, brusquement interrompu depuis la naissance du philosophe manqué de Ferney, depuis l'avortement du grand Voltaire. Il paraît beau, sublime, sous prétexte d'humilité ou d'orgueil, de discuter les causes finales, d'en fausser les conséquences stables et connues. Détrompez-vous, parce qu'il n'y a rien de plus bête !
