Alan Watts was the Honorary General Secretary of the Dickens Fellowship. He gives many details of Dickens' house at Gad's Hill: 'how the billiard table was illuminated, what measures were taken to stop thefts from the wine cellar, where the flag was kept which flew when Dickens was at home' [wrapper blurb]. Dickens bought Gad's Hill Place, on the Old Dover Road near Rochester, in 1855 and lived in the house, off and on, for fifteen years.
