Víctimas de la represión tras el golpe militar de 1973, tuvieron que escribir con un lenguaje a menudo sesgado y alusivo, y publicar en revistas de corta vida. Quizá por ello, aunque son muy reconocidos en Chile, casi ninguno había sido publicado hasta ahora en España ni en el resto de Europa. Danilo Manera (Alba, 1957), escritor y crítico italiano, es profesor de Literatura española en la Universidad de Milán. Ha preparado ediciones italianas de numerosos autores españoles, entre otros de Rafael Sánchez Ferlosio, Álvaro Cunqueiro, Enrique Vila-Matas, Manuel Rivas, Ramón Gómez de la Serna o Emilia Pardo Bazán, así como antologías de cuentos cubanos, canarios, vascos, gallegos, colombianos, haitianos y chilenos.
