Aggiungi al carrelloA work devoted to its Geography & Resources; and Economic & Commercial development. Compiled and translated from the latest and most authoritative surveys and records. Second edition. 25 colour maps (several double-page and folding) and numerous tables. Elephant folio, measuring 40x55cm. Original cloth, corners bumped, hinges go…ing, water-damage throughout, but overall still a good copy. [xii], xi, 88, 35, 187, xxxiii, [xvii](appendices), [xxxx](adverts)pp. Shanghai, North-China Daily News & Herald, n.d. [but ca. "'The New Atlas and Commercial Gazetteer of China' seeks to give all information that is essential to a business-man in regard to a country that comprises nearly a sixth of the earth's surface, a country that has the largest and most heterogeneous population in the world, a country about which less is known than in regard to any similar area in the world." (Preface). Possibly the most detailed account of commercial activity - both native and foreign - for the whole of China ever published, with separate sections on each of the provinces giving a wealth of economic data from the early 20th century. Includes chapters on the commodities, manufactures and industries, the Chinese Maritime Customs, communications (roads, post, telephone, rail), the opium-trade etc. Together with its large bi-lingual colour lithograph maps and charts this should be considered an essential reference work.
